Chicago Theological Seminary

The Chicago Theological Seminary has been at the center of transformative theological education since 1855, with a long-standing concern for social reform and social justice.  CTS also has been a pioneer in Clinical Pastoral Education since the 1920’s.

Those who attend ISL may participate in a joint program in spiritual direction and spiritual leadership combining ISL’s program and the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree at Chicago Theological Seminary, an ecumenical seminary related to the United Church of Christ.  Successful completion of the ISL weekday program, either as a full-time or part-time participant, will be equivalent to three of the nine courses required for completion of the D.Min. degree.  Admission to both institutions is required to participate in this joint program.

The Doctor of Ministry is an advanced professional degree.  At a minimum, participants must possess Master of Divinity or equivalent degree(s).  A major strength of the CTS program is its combining theological inquiry with flexibility in shaping individualized programs of study.  For more information contact Director of Admission, 1164 E. 58th Street, Chicago, IL 60637; www.ctschicago.edu.

Meadville Lombard Theological School

The mission of Meadville Lombard Theological School includes the empowerment of liberal religious congregations and voluntary associations through preparing men and women for ministry, religious education and community outreach.  Meadville Lombard’s educational process includes teaching, research, critical reflection and institutional outreach, and dialogue with persons of non-Christian faiths.

Individuals who complete the ISL weekday program are eligible for credit toward the nine course Doctor of Ministry degree offered by Meadville Lombard Theological School, affiliated with the University of Chicago and with the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Participants in the D.Min. program have significant flexibility in designing a program of study tailored to their particular interests and professional experiences.  Coursework for the D.Min. at Meadville Lombard may be completed in the intensive format (January and July) or in a combination of residential and intensive courses.  Requirements are a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent and three years of ministry experience.  For more information contact Dr. Susann Pangerl, 5701 Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637; [email protected].
